Ok... This MAY have been covered here, long ago when the DVDs first were released, but please be patient w/ me, Ive just within the past three months discovered this great show, and have since purchased all the available seasons on DVD....so its still 'new' to me... My question is this... Whenever an ep starts from the season one DVD series, right before Holly gives his little bit of 'what we've been up to' speeches in black and white over the outer space backdrop, there is a quick glimpse of a still that seems to be involving Lister and Rimmer that 'floats' out of the bottom of the screen, flattened...(hopefully, if youve seen this on can watch the DVD again, you will get when I mean... Anyone know why this was? Is it supposed to be 'last weeks show, final scene' or something?? Just confused... K

Holly's intro was included not so much for the veiwers at home but more for the studio audience. When filming Future Echoes and onwards the exopsition was usually down to a warm-up comedian or someone like Tony Hawks who would basicly adresses the audience and say "Ok, so there's this man, right, who's the last human in the universe, then there's this bloke who's dead..."
Norman Lovett was pushing to appear as a head rather than a voiceover anyway, so the holly intro was included along with a snappy one-liner for the benifit of home veiwers and the studio audience.
As for the floating pictures of Lister and Rimmer, they're not from the last show or anything, they're just pictures of Lister and rimmer, simple as that. They're all the same in season one, but change for season two. To have a different picture for each episode would be too much hassle.
The only time Holly talks specificly about a previous episode was in "Waiting for god" about the episode "balance of power"

Well explained.
The pics were from episode one - The End.

Still seems rather odd, that Lister/Rimmer 'flattened' pic thing...I 'get' Hollys intro, etc...but that floating still just seemed so unnecassary, so odd!... Thanks! K

The only thing the intro is used for now is for Cast members to take the mickey out of Norman Lovatt's hair!

...no its NOT 42, thats an entirely DIFFERENT scifi comedy property, dammit!... Ok finally figured out that this question originates from the fact that I own a cruddy, older DVD player, nothing more... When I went to load the DVD, I went to 'Select Scene', then punched in the first scene...this bypassed the entire opening credits sequence (in lovely B&W with Holly giving you the low down on 'the story thus far', basically) which leads to the episode title...making the last B&W scene squash down as if in 3D and SLIDE away to the side..thats where I was 'coming in' to the installments! (And I used to wonder why there were no opening titles to series one and two! Grrrr...cheap DVD player!!... Anyway, my thanks to everyone that tried to discover what the hell I was going on about...much appreciated! K
