I've heard mixed feelings from RD fans about this whole movie business. Some think it's going to be excellent, and others are afraid it will stray way too far from the original series.
I'm wondering if they will take it up from where season 8 left off, or if they will go away from that and create something unrelated. What do other people thing of all this?

Hmmm...I dunno. I've seen the flyer and blurb on the official site but that doesn't exaclty explain what's going to happen or where it's going to start up from. Whatever they do, I'm sure it'll be great...unless they do take it too far from the original. I'm not sure. btw, have you seen any episodes from season 8? I've read some things about it saying it's not as good as the earlier seasons.

Yeah, I've heard that too. I haven't actually seen any episodes yet, I've seen a few from season 7 though. I have to admit I do prefer the earlier seasons, hehe... I think what people might not have liked about 8 was that the whole crew of RD had been "resurrected", so to speak, so the formula of just having 3 or 4 characters playing off each other was gone... Oh well, I'll have to see what I think about it myself

I read on the BBC site that it was supposed to be set in the distant future.

Im hoping it will be a continuation of the 8th season though probably not since they will want to make it easy to follow for people who don't watch the show. I haven't heard anything about it.

Im hoping it will be a continuation of the 8th season though probably not since they will want to make it easy to follow for people who don't watch the show. Yeah... I think the problem with the X Files movie was that it was just a longer version of the show, and if you didn't watch the series normally, seeing the movie would be pointless because you wouldn't know what was going on... And I don't think it did too well because of that... so hopefully the RD movie won't follow that formula, and will be independant... Even still, it'll most likely only be seen by hardcore, die heard Red Dwarf fans, so if they did continue it on from season 8 it might not matter anyway...

As far as I can see, the movie will be largely focussed on the lives of the crew prior to RD. Like why Lister joined the Space Corps in the first place, and why Rimmer is the way he is. It also mentions a possible love interest for Rimmer in the movie. If I can find the interview with the details on it I'll post it.

Found out that it is rumoured to be costing 12 million to make. Don't know how true this is. The rumour of it being fimed in Oz seems to be confirmed on most sites mentioning the film.

I read in that interview with Chris that he wants Angelina Jolie to play a love interest for Rimmer, LOL!

Yeah, he does have a soft spot for her doesn't he? Personally, I'd prefer a the film to tie up all the loose ends from the end of the last series as opposed to what happened before. Like, do they get back to earth? Does lIster get the Fiji. Is the human race extinct? Does Rimmer find love? You know, that kind of thing.

Yeah, that'd be good, either that or it can lead to a 9th series that answers all those questions

right he is the low down for people you don't yet know the plot for the movie is listed below RED DWARF THE MOVIE is set in the distant future where Homo Sapienoids, a fearsome combination of flesh and machine, and the next stage of human evolution, have taken over the solar system and almost wiped out the human race. The only survivors are the crews of long-haul space freighters that left Earth before the conflict began. The Sapienoids send forth fleets of Death Ships to hunt them down. One by one - the human ships fall, until only one remains. Its name - Red Dwarf...it does not continue from series 8 because its a stand alone movie ------------------------------------------------------ the movie now has a budget of 13 million but at the momment doug naylor (creator and writer) is having trouble getting hold of the budget. im the info king
