For those who may want to know, Chris's first episode of Massive Engines on Discovery UK tonight. It was about diggers and was (i promise) a lot more interesting than it sounds. Here is a brief overview of the show:
Chris introduces the show while trying to dig with a shovel and wheelbarrow. He's not to sucessful though and falls over, on his ass, in the mud, and stands up giggling and muddy with a huge grin on his face. Bless!
He shows us a 150 year old steam digger and explains how it worked. He then goes on to explain bigger and more powerful diggers by size and horse power. Ranging from big JCBs to HUGE underground diggers and finally to an ENORMOUS (serious, this thing is MASSIVE) digger in Germany.
There was a shot of his walking along a gantry while VERY high in the air on this massive digger. He seemed a bit worried about how high up he was, but excited nonetheless. The camera was leaning over the side of the railing and then lifted around to look at Chris who could be heard mumbling,
"Don't lean over to far, for gods sake..."
He then went on to mention that when the massive digging arm rotated it was, to quote him (and a RD gag) "Brown trousers time" I can see where he was coming from. You wouldn't have caught me on that thing. He made some nice little battery operated minatures of the engines he was showing us and explained how they worked.
He finished with the Barrie quote of the week after showing us the biggert digger in the world,
"But, there are bigger holes. No wait, There isn't actually. This is King Hole! And I'm digging it!" [at this point he looks delighted while manoevering an enormous (can stress size enough) digger to mine some coal.
All in all it was informative, enjoyable and amusing. ;D ;D
