Having scanned through the thread, all I really have to add about my own thoughts is: I collect the Battles In Time battle cards magazine. That's how cool I am.

Aww, I love Doctor Who... XD Oh, did I ever tell you about my art front cover? It has David Tennant as the Doctor, the TARDIS, Mr Flibble and stabug on it. And the great thing is, the drawings are pretty damn good (If I say so myself ^^) so no one can criticise me XD Wow, I feel six years old again. BTW CE, love the avvie ^^ And those animations are awesome. They MUST be by the same guys as the new ones - looks a similar design. Second was great He reminds me of my friend's dog...jumping about...yapping... *Goes into Doctor Who mode* Note to all: New series on the 31st. I'm a bit worried, really. I hope they're not gonna throw this away with whatsername and the Doctor in a serious pairing. They put some new video diaries on Youtube of David and whatsername...and she can't actually talk. She YELLS. SCREAMS. She can't SAY anything. And she sucks up to David Tennant. Then again...don't blame her. *Cancel Doctor Who mode*

Lol, I've just watched both trailers and got a little background info. ...Old skool fans who aren't open to modern drama are not going to like it. Don't want spoilers, don't read this!:Martha gives the Doctor CPR lol. I won't say I didn't actually see it coming, after all she is a med-student and David's Video Diary said the pyjamas make a comeback... I reckon it was something to do with the explosion in the Runaway Bride trailer of clips. It looks bloody awesome though, I seriously cannot wait to see it ^^ Nine days...just NINE... *Holds on desperately to sanity* OMG! THE MASTER IS COMING BACK! EVIL! EVILLLLLL!! ---------------------- I'll cut it short there.

BTW CE, love the avvie ^^ Ooh, thankyoh! ^_^ I made a whole bunch a while ago but only got about halfway through episode 2 and gave up. Mixed feelings about the new series so far (well, first episode of it ). Seems good, the writing's still sharp and the special effects are pretty ace. Rhinos wearing New Rocks = made my day. ;D And the Freema girl surprised me, she was rather blimmin' good. Though this series looks like it's going to be alot heavier and maybe gloomier in the atmosphere since the departure of Rose (I do well hope she comes back eventually! I don't think it's off the cards, I reckon they could bring her back in a series or two). It still makes me smile though, and that's how I rate things.

I loved the new series, start.....
It is a good show, but every old person I speak to (Over about 50) always say, "ooh, they've ruined it now" but in truth, they used to hide behind the couch at nothing...

Hey back in the day, the classic series was pretty damn good - watching something in the 60s/70s is obviously not going to have the same kind of special effects as something 80s/90s today, right? And the BBC didn't have much of a budget either. See - back then, they relied on good storylines, adventure and acting Now they rely too much on big special effects - not to mention that feckin' sonic screwdriver. Not forgetting that it started out in black and white, and the atmosphere of something in b/w is a lot different to something in colour. God I think I'm channelling my b/f again

It's bloody amazing. If you watch Episode 1 Series 1 with Christopher Eccleston, then watch Episode 2 Series 3 with David Tennant, there is a HUGE difference. The Shakespeare Code is defo my favourite episode to date, including the "classic series". And I have seen quite a lot of them O.o As for Freema/Martha, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to go along with her after the departure of Rose...but she's completely straightened my way of thinking. A LOT better than I thought she would be. I'm praising the new series a lot here, but you gotta remember the old Doctor Who set the highest boundary possible of it's time and the new series broke it extremely cleanly. Just depends whether you're content with the new technology or not. If a few classic fans don't like the idea of the realism in CGI, I guess that's fine. Cardboard sets that fall over when you touch them, that's what it's all about, right? And seriously, paper mache monsters or CGI monsters? CGI anytime. Not only are you thinking about the attractiveness of your storyline, you are thinking of it's audience too. I mean, we might be content with pieces of foam on the end of sticks 'cause most of us grew up with it with RD and all that, but if you reintroduced that wouldn't today's kids get a little peed off? Gawd, there's me, talking about audience and purpose again. Forgive me. It's the Shakespeare for my SATs. O.o And don't insult the Sonic Screwdriver, SE. The Sonic Screwdriver rules ALL! I have my own The mains reasons of the Psychic Paper and the Sonic Screwdriver is to cut the crap of "Oh, how shall we get in this top secret base today? I have a paperclip and a piece of blu tack, companion! What do you have?" because then we're just backtracking to Macgyver...and I don't think many of us want to go back there. It's a good idea. *Claps Russell T. Davies* So err, that's my essay on the debate "Have they ruined the new series of Doctor Who?" sir, can I go to lunch now?

I wasn't saying CGI was a bad thing, I was just saying that with the Classic series, of course the effects are going to suck - they didn't have the money or technology back then.
I just think they focused more on storylines then - I didn't like the whole "romanticised" soap opera feel to the last 2 series much.
Prove me wrong with this next series - so far I've heard it's good, and I'm curious to see it. But I have to wait til July or something, hah!
Seriously I don't want to get into some full blown argument over this - you like the old or you like the new, or you can find some sort of common ground for both and appreciate them as they are.
I just think it's important to have seen the original of something before seeing the "new" - it's like remakes of movies. See the original first, so that the impact isn't ruined. Otherwise you'll be thinking "oh this is crap, the SFX are dodgy (well of course, if it was made pre-90s and the remake is post that), etc..."
