I have to agree with the movie comment; hollywood has a wonderful habit of truly mucking up a perfectly good storyline by relying on the automatic fanbase, big names and special effects. It's sad that those who have the funding to make a good movie choose not to, while others are left struggling. So is life...
On another note ~ what Pratchett book are you reading? I am a huge fan, but I have to admit some are better than others. Anything with Death as a main character is usually good, followed by the wizards and then the witches. I am not as big on the city-based ones, though they certainly have their moments.

I have high hopes for the h2g2 movie, if only for the interviews etc I've read of those currently involved in making it. However, no movie adaptation of *anything* will ever be better than the original in the eyes of those who know & love it. Imagination will usually create something superior to what is on screen, especially when you have an imagination as bloody good as mine. *looks over to the imaginary friends currently partying down in the living room of her luxury mansion* As for Pratchett...I adore him. Him & his ever so loffly hat. Discworld is truly a wonderful place & the books are, in my opinion probably best read in order. However, you might give up after the first couple of books as 'The Light Fantastic' & 'Colour of Magic' are not quite as good as the later books. My favourite character at the moment is Otto Chriek, the vampire iconographer. He rocks! I drew a pic of him which you can see via this link: img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/PlanetRuth/Discworld/Otto_Chriek_drawing.jpgYours postingly, [glow=red,2,300] .¸¸,ø¤º°*»Ruth«*°º¤ø,¸¸.[/glow]

My my, Nanny! She is quite fun I think the Color of Magic is actually a bit better the second time around, as you have grown to know and love Rincewind. I have to love the book if only for the introduction of the Luggage, another favorite. My most recent read was Thief of Time, which was, as usual, very good, but a little different from his previous books. Couldn't really pinpoint it, but there seemed to be more to it.. Otto is an absolutly fantastic character, and that was a beautiful picture of him Ruth!!! I wish I could draw what comes into my head... And yes, turning a book into a movie will always take away a little something, well, a big something, but you can only hope they will make a movie that you can appreciate as the Movie version of a story. Sometimes they do quite a good job, allowing for both an excellent book and excellent movie in their own right. I have not yet seen anything about the new Guide, only heard about it through the rumor mill, so I cannot express any definite opinion on it yet.

I'd suggest reading 'Night Watch' because even thinking about it, I get goosepimples. It's Pratchett at his best & really pokes a finger in the eye of those who think after two dozen plus Discworld books, he might be losing it! It ties in nicely with 'Thief of Time' & I think perhaps the main reason that book was written was so that 'Night Watch' could be At the moment the entire top rows of our bookshelf is filled with Pratchett, including the very lovely leather bound editions. At first glance it makes our book collection look oh so sophisticated If he keeps writing we're going to need a library the size of the one at UU...ook! Ach, lady you are making me go green again! I too have devoted the top shelf of my bookshelf to Pratchett, but I only have two hardbacks, and the remaining paperbacks are pretty jacked up. As a perk for working at a local bookstore, we could take one paperback home a week. The catch? Must *shivers* Tear off the cover, initial and date, and place in box for return. Sooo, most started out poorly, then with repetitive reading have only gotten worse. Hmmm, have never read Night Watch... must go to bookstore right now and find it...must read more Pratchett...
